Having a miscarriage

Once we had settled into life in Thailand we decided to start trying again for another baby. It did not take long for me to fall pregnant again. We were both over the moon with the news and could not wait to tell family and friends. Even though I was really excited I was still worried in the back of my mind that I might have another miscarriage. I took it really bad after having my first miscarriage and I fell into depression and lost most of my hair with alopecia areata.
The first thing we did when we found out I was pregnant was to check out the local hospitals. Hua HIn has three hospitals.

1/ Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin, 888 Petchkasem Rd., Hua Hin,Prachuapkhirikhan 77110. This hospital is private and having just been built this hospital seemed perfect facility wise and offered great packages for giving birth , although these packages were coslty we notied that there were still many things not included in the price which we would have had to pay extra for but despite that I was still certain that this was the place I wanted to give birth.

2/ San Paulo Hospital Hua Hin, 222 Phetchakasem Road ,Hua Hin, Prachuapkhirikhan 77110. This is also a private hospital and offered similar packages for giving birth but for a fraction of the price. We did not want to use this hospital as we had heard many bad reports about the place but still kept it an open option.

3/ Hua Hin Hospital, 30/2 road Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. 77110,  This hospital is the Kings hospital, it is the local government run hospital and it is free to Thais that were born in this province. Foreigners can still pay to use this hospital but it is really cheap compared to the other two. Here they do not do packages for giving birth but just have a standard fee for the delivery and any extras.

The first time we visited any of the hospitals I was nearly twelve weeks pregnant and was experiencing slight pain in my abdomen. As Bangkok hospital was where I wanted to give birth we headed there for a check up. When arriving there they told us it was not possible for me to  have a scan that day , I would have to wait a few days , this was no good for us as I needed to be seen to there and then. We left there and headed straight for San Paulo Hospital instead in hope of them being able to help me. We had the same scenario there, they could not see me for a few days there either. We decided to head home and on our way back we were passing Hua Hin Hospital and both decided to try our luck with them instead. When we arrived we did not expect much with it being the local government run hospital. We expected it to be like a third world hospital but we were really surprised by the level of service we were given. They provided us with a translator , whom of which was very friendly, she helped us out loads and despite the fact the scanning roon had closed ten mintues prior to us arriving she managed to get me seen to there and then.
Unfortunately we were given the news we were both dreading , they told me that they were unable to find my babys heart beat and that the fetus stopped growing around eight weeks , now for me this was more devastaing because my first miscarrige I was told the fetus stopped growing at around seven weeks even then I showed no sign of anything being wrong, only found out when having my very first twelve week scan.
This time I was determined not to let it get me depressed again , so like many others would do I just picked myself up and carried on with everyday life and give trying for another baby a rest for a little while.
Hua Hin hospital provided us with an excellent service. It goes to show that going private is not always the best option.

    Hi Chelsey,
Great minds think alike. I too have had 2 misscarriages in Thailand and agree that the health service here sometimes seems a million miles away from the NHS back home, so I too have started a blog to tell my story and help other women in Thailand navigate this physically and emotionally challenging time. I am so happy that your journey ended happily. We are currently trying to conceive for the third time and I desperately hope its third time lucky for us too. Wishing you all the best and if you are still in Thailand maybe we could meet up. Rouge
