Throughout the day my contractions got stronger and more frequent but it was not until ten o'clock in the evening we decided to make our way to the hospital to prepare for the birth. Upon arriving we made our way up to the birthing ward where I was told to get changed out of my clothing and into their hospital gown. I was then examined to see how far along things were and they told me I was only one centimeter dilated. I knew that this meant it would be a long while before anything was to happen. Before making my way into the labour waiting room, we waited at the front desk area where we were informed that once I'm in the labour waiting room I would not see my partner until midday the next day during visiting hours. Shocked by this news as no one had mentioned this to us before we decided that it was not appropriate for us and I went back to the room to get changed out of their clothing and back into my own.
We decided to look for another hospital that allowed my partner to be there and not have to wait until visiting hours to see me next and possibly the baby if I had had her. As my partner was not allowed to be there for the birth of our child, he at least wanted to be around as much as he could, right up until I was due to have the baby.
The next hospital we arrived at was San Paulo. When entering there, we made our way up to the front desk and asked the receptionist what they had to offer. They showed us the price plan of the birth which was reasonable but then we were informed that my other half would not be able to be present for the birth so it was no better than the first hospital. We were told that if we went private it might be possible for my partner to be present and going private meant Bangkok hospital which also meant big money.
In the process of running in and out of hospitals my contractions were getting much more frequent and very painful. We had to make a decision so we chose to go back to the original hospital that I've been with the whole way through my pregnancy. They have all my documents and medical records so we decided that this was the better option although the fact still remained that I would be giving birth on my own.We knew it was the right choice to make.
When we got back to Hua Hin hospital at about quarter to twelve I had to yet again get changed into their gown and get examined. Although my contractions were more frequent and stronger I was still only one centermetre dilated. While I was getting examined my partner somehow managed to pursuade the staff to let him stay with me, but only for a little while. Fithteen mintutes was all he was allowed until he would be sent out, so a little happier we both headed to the bed where I was to stay while waiting until I was due to give birth.
When my partner left for home the nurse came and strapped a monitor around my belly to hear and record the babys heart beat. She also gave me a button that i had to press and hold for the duration of the contraction . I had to lay there for about twenty minutes, maybe longer. When the nurse eventually came and removed the monitor it was such a relief to be able to move but she informed me that I must only lie on my left side,
After a while I started to drift in and out of sleep but everytime I got a contraction I was woken by the intense pain. The pain got so bad that I called out for a nurse to give me something to ease it but no one came to my bed side. It took several shout outs until the nurse finally paid me attention and gave me a local injection which had no affect on me at all. The pain was so immense and worsened as my contractions got stronger and more closer.
As I lay there, with every contraction I let out a little moan hoping it would help but it never did. Time had flown by, I was so focused on every contraction that when I looked at the clock it was about four o'clock in the morning. By this time I got the weirdest feeling like I needed to push so I called out for the nurse. When she came over she examined me. Realising I was fully dialated the nurse went away and returned to my bed with a wheelchair and instrusted me to get into it. I slowy lifted myself up off the bed and into the wheelchair and was wheeled off into the labaour room, there I had to lift myself up and onto the birthing bed get as comfortable as I could ready to start pushing.
No one told me when I was supposed to push, I just kind of knew, it didn't help the nurse not speaking much english so I had to just get on with it. It didnt seem as though I was pushing for very long because before I knew it I gave one final push and out my beautiful little princess came. Born 30th june 2012 at 4.29 am.
On her way out I felt a ripping horrible pain, that to me hurt more than having to push her out. I only had a little glance at her before they took her away to be cleaned up. I was then cleaned and stitched up and told to get some rest.. I'd asked the nurse when she was first born to phone my partner and give him the news straight away, she said she would. From that point onwards the clock was going more slowy than ever as I was waiting to hold our daughter for the first time. An hour must of gone by before Miah was brought to me, the nurse passed this tiny baby all wrapped up in the pink blanket we had brought her and placed her by my side. I was told to try and feed her so shyingly I did but didn't feel comfortable about having my boob out around the nurses so stopped until they left. I just kept staring and cuddling her so overcome with emotion like nothing that I'd ever felt before saying to myself oh my gosh has shes really just come from me she's so beautiful smiling and tearful at the same time. Once the nurses left my side I attempted breast feeding again thinking I might be ok now that everyones gone but I was wrong, I tried and tried but couldn't seem to get her to latch onto me. I thought maybe she's just not hungry yet as she wasn't crying like all the other babys that had been born around me she was sound asleep. Instead I just stared and cuddled her even more until the nurse came back. She asked if shes fed but I tried explaining that she woudnt suckle.
