Unexpectedly I found out I was pregnant again for the third time, unlike the other two this one was a complete shock to us both and was not planned. I’d decided to do the pregnancy test on my fiancés birthday , so the news was the best thing ever. From there we both decided that I go to see the doctor as soon as possible, this time we were certain I was going to have my baby at Hua Hin Hospital. The way they cared for me on my last visit to them was outstanding, there was no doubt in my mind about this decision.
Seeing the doctor early on in the pregnancy meant I could ask him to do a check on me to find out why I have had two previous miscarriages and hopefully help me out in some way of being able to carry this baby full term. After the doctor had done a few tests it came out that I had a low hormone level . I was given the option to have hormone injections every week into my buttock muscle, as I was certain I was not going through another miscarriage I agreed that this was the way forward .
The first three months were really scary, especially when it was getting closer to the date of the twelve week scan. We were dreading of having the awful news of having yet another miscarriage. Each Tuesday we made our way down to the hospital for me to have my weekly injection. It was not long until we found out that the hospital did a special express service. For the price of four pounds they give you a pass that gets you straight to the front of any queue, something like a VIP pass. Believe me, it can knock hours off your visit to the hospital.
At around the forth month I woke up in agony on one of the days. No matter how hard I tried and in so many positions I could not get rid of this intense pain in my left abdomen. After putting up with it for the majority of the day and until I could not take anymore I took myself down to Hua Hin Hospital to get myself checked out. When I arrived at the pregnancy ward, there were many other Thai women being taken care of throughout their pregnancies. I was told to get on to a little bed at the corner of the room where they do the checking of the babys heart beat. There I laid for half an hour having the baby assessed via this machine, after that I was taken through to see the doctor. He checked me over, had a look with the scanning machine and told me the baby was perfectly fine and that the pain might be from needing to go to the toilet. He prescribed me with some pain killers and told me to rest.
Having a baby here in Thailand is so much different from having a baby in my home country, England. The way they go about their service here is much like how they would back in the day. The uniform they wear appears as if they are still in war time but that does not affect the level of care they provide for you because the service that is provided is fantastic. In Thailand they also do not provide a personal midwifery service nor does anyone take any visits to your home to support you and help you throughout your pregnancy. Everything here in Thailand is done at the hospital with your doctor who sees you on your first arrival. Your doctor might also have his own doctors clinic which they only open after working at the hospital all day, these are called night clinics.
I visited the hospital or one of the clinics quite often and had many different doctors at the beginning of my pregnancy due to the fact that i had a few problems. The rest of my pregnancy went perfectly, I was only needing to visit the hospital on my appointment days. At around the forth month I woke up in agony on one of the days.
